My Favorite Gadgets to Pack for a Trip
As an avid traveler for the past 10 years, I’ve started to gather some gadgets that help make my trips smoother. In this post, I’m listing my favorite gadgets to pack for any trip — long or short. I also include links to all of them. Hope this is helpful!
Vacuum-sealed Bags and Pump
I don’t like to travel with large checked luggage and try to pack everything I can into a carry-on suitcase. This not only saves me a ton of money from baggage fees, but it’s also more practical with being mobile. It’s more difficult to lug around a large, heavy suitcase on trains and buses.
In order to maximize the amount of clothes I can fit (because having to launder clothes often also gets pricey), I use vacuum sealed bags. I ordered these particular bags from Amazon and it comes with a lightweight, portable pump. I’ll never travel without vacuum-sealing my clothes again.
GoPro Hero10 and separate accessories kit
I love the versatility of my GoPro Hero10. It can be used to take photos and high-res videos. It can shoot in both landscape and portrait and is optimized for vlogging, underwater content, sport content, and anything else that’s adventurous. The Hero 10 is water-proof, so it doesn’t need a case. It’s small size and light weight also makes it optimal for traveling.
From the accessories kit we ordered, we mainly use the floating handle and wrist-strap. This is ideal for getting underwater content. Though the Hero10 is water-proof, it does not float. So if it’s not attached to some kind of floating handle, it’ll sink to the bottom of the Ocean (or river, or lake, or wherever you are).
Sony Alpha 7iii DSLR with 24-70mm kit lens and Sony EF 85mm 1.8 lens
I’m in love with my Sony Alpha 7iii. It’s a fantastic mid-level mirrorless DSLR. It also shoots well in video mode. I bought the camera body with the 24-70mm kit lens from Best Buy. I then went and bought the 85mm 1.8 lens for portraits.
The 85mm is my favorite lens to use, though it’s not ideal for landscape photography since the depth of field is shallow. The length of the lens also makes it zoom in on your subject. But the bokeh it creates is absolutely lovely and I use it whenever I have enough space behind me to capture everything I want in my frame.
On the other hand, the kit lens is pretty versatile and is what I use for many landscape/street shots where I need wider angles and deeper depth of field.
DJI Mini 3 Pro
This is the newest gadget we acquired, and man, I can’t believe I went so long without a drone. The two things I love the most about this drone is that it’s tiny and portable (though the remote is on the larger side) and that it shoots in both vertical and horizontal orientation. Aka, the vertical orientation is perfect for TikTok and Instagram! And let’s not forget how crisp and clear the quality is.
External Hard Drive
Laptops storage can be fill up quickly when dumping photos and videos. An external hard drive allows us to clear up space on our computers by transferring files to the hard drive (so no content has to get deleted!)
Portable Charger
This one is pretty self-explanatory. The best ones for travel are those that are small and lightweight while also packing power.
Multi-Adapter Universal Powerstrip
I’m so glad I ordered this powerstrip. It comes with 3 traditional US charging ports, 4 USB-A ports, and 1 USB-C port. It also comes with Europe, UK, and American plug adapters. This is necessary because many hotel/Airbnb rooms abroad may not have many plug outlets available.
USB-C Multipurpose Adapter
This particular one seems sold out on Best Buy (we bought it a couple of years ago), but any USB-C to 8-Port Hub should suffice. The functionality of the 8 different ports is a game-changer.
